About Reinsurance
Note: Users need
the "Reinsurance Setup" authority (Company Configuration group)
to access and use any of its functions.
The Diamond System includes both Treaty and Facultative Reinsurance.
- Facultative Reinsurance: This type of reinsurance is one in which
a contract is usually negotiated for a specific insurance policy.
Typically, this type of reinsurance is bought when a policy is unusual
or large and the original insurer is concerned about the risk of liability.
- Treaty Reinsurance: This type of reinsurance covers a "group"
of policies (e.g., Homeowners or Auto) for a specified period
of time. This is more closely enforced, because all the terms of the
contract between the primary insurer and the reinsurer must be met.
