Note: You must have the authority, "Change Policy First Written Date," (Diamond Administration group) to access and run this function.
The Change Policy First Written Date function is used when the entry in the date written field for a policy is incorrect. An example of this would the following. A client is entering policies as new business in Diamond for the first time; however, the insured has had a policy with them for ten (10) years. The new business policy is entered with the current date (e.g., 0815/2010) but in reality the insured has had a policy with the company since 08/15/2000. The policy is rated and issued with an effective date of 08/15/2010. Using this function, you can change the date the policy was actually first written to reflect the length of time the insured has been with the company.
Select Change Policy First Written Date from the Diamond Administration Tree View.
Policy Number: Enter the policy number for which the first written date will be changed and tab out of the field.
Current First Written Date: Once you have tabbed out of the Policy Number field, the Current First Written Date defaults with the date the policy was first written. In our example above, this would display the date 08/15/2010.
New First Written Date: Again, using our example from above, we would then manually enter the new first written date as 08/15/2000.
Save: The system automatically writes the new first written date to the firstwritten_date field on the policy.
Cancel: Exits the Change First Written Date screen without processing the date change.
A policy marked "Historical" will have its first date written changed, as well as that of the current policy image. All existing and subsequent endorsements reflect the new first written date.
Note: Changing a policy's first written date does NOT change the policy's effective date!
