Note: Users will need the authority, "Bifurcate Claim," (Claim Detail group) to perform this function. Additionally, the system setting, "Claims Bifurcation" (Claims / General folder) in Diamond System editor must be set to "True" (Enable) to use this functionality.
"Bifurcation" involves splitting a claim into multiple claim files. Frequently, insurance / civil matters are bifurcated into separate liability, damages and / or coverage proceedings. Bifurcation can be done at any time during claims processing.
From the Claim Tree View, highlight the claim number:
Click the Administer button.
Select Bifurcate.
Answer OK to the message: "Bifurcate this claim?"
You have the option of changing any of the claim personnel that was assigned to the original claim.
To change personnel from the original claim, click in any of the Personnel fields and make your changes.
When finished, click OK.
Click Finish.
At this point, the claim is bifurcated (spilt). The original claim number is used and the bifurcated claim is the claim number in addition to the next available sequence number. The sequence number is added to the original claim number with a hyphen added. For example, an original claim number might be: 2015001. When it is bifurcated, it becomes 20150001-1. Features and transactions from the original claim are not copied when the claim is bifurcated.
When a claim is loaded, you may view a bifurcated claim by:
Accessing the policy, clicking Claims in the Quick Links Navigation Pane.
A list is then shown of all claim numbers associated through bifurcation.
Select the pencil icon next to the bifurcated claim to view it.
